This book was pretty okay! Skulduggery was definitely my favorite! He was very funny, but what I really liked was that he cared about people and was kind to them, not for manipulative reasons, but just BECAUSE. I think the "anti-hero" has actually become a pretty common protagonist these days. While I do like some anti-heroes, I was really delighted that Skulduggery wasn't one. He didn't fight evil for his own selfish reasons but because it was the right thing to do. I know it says that he hated Serpine and would do anything to get his revenge but that didn't seem to be his reason for fighting him. He talks most often about saving the world, not getting his revenge. And he wasn't cruel to Serpine, even when he had the chance. It just seemed like he really valued life and people. And that was really refreshing.
Stephanie is likable, but that's about all she is. I mean, I love how she fought smart(ly) and frequently saved herself instead of just relying on Skulduggery to save her all the time. But personality-wise, she was just uninteresting to me. She's described as a strong-willed, sharp-tongued girl who doesn't suffer fools gladly, but she hardly, if ever, ACTS that way. Like you said, she's brave but not fearless, forceful but not bull-headed, and so on. She hits a happy, PREDICTABLE medium in all her characteristics. I couldn't relate to her most of the time.
The dialogue was hilarious and the plot was exciting, perhaps a little too much so. I was actually frightened a few times. So even though I really, really liked Skulduggery, I'm not sure I'll read the next books. But there's a good chance I will. :)

This was an AWESOME book!! I loved it! Skulduggery is awesome, I loved the way he acted. And Stephine, I think you summed her up perfectly. I did like it how she was brave but not over cocky and still felt fear every now and then. Tanith, I have to say, shocked me. The first chapter she was in, I had no clue she was going to be goofy!! It's awesome! I also liked how it was harder to figure out the mystery then other books. I really hate it when mystery books are easy to figure out, I think it takes all the fun out of them.

Are you serious?!?!?! There's going to be seven or eight of them?!?!?!?!?!?!?! THAT'S FLIPPIN AWESOME!!!! I can't wait, I've already picked up the second book and now I'm dieing to read it!!!!
